Working AT Height – Academy™ is proud to introduce our Chemical Spill Response training equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely respond to chemical spills, minimizing harm to people, the environment, and facilities. It focuses on recognising hazards, understanding preventative measures, and executing proper response protocols.
This course is in two parts:
- Part 1 focuses on workplace safety, management, emergency procedures and protocols.
- Part 2 focuses on the development of the site Emergency Spill Response Team.

Part 1: Site Safety Chemical Spill
- Unit 1 – International National & Local Legislation
- Unit 2 – What is a Hazardous Substance
- Unit 3 – Identifying Hazardous Substances.
- Unit 4 – Health impacts of exposure.
- Unit 5 – Identify risks associated with chemical use.
- Unit 6 – General Principles of Chemical Safety
- Unit 7 – Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Explained.
- Unit 8 – Personnel Protection Equipment – Overview
- Unit 9 – Practical Chemical Spill Demonstration
- Unit 10 – Fire Extinguisher/Fire Blanket use for Chemical Spill
- Unit 11 – Immediate first aid action for chemical burns
- Unit 12 – Emergency Plans
- Unit 13 – Site Familiarisation
- UNIT 14 – An understanding of SDS and how to use the data for risk assessments.
- Unit 15 – The knowledge to predict a chemical’s behaviour if released.

Assessment Process:
Written Examination: The candidate must carry out a written examination of Parts 1 and 2.
Practical Skills Assessment: The candidate must carry out a practical test on emergency response and emergency management.
Who Should Attend?
Those attending who are working around chemicals on day to day bases in a workplace setting, the candidate must be medically fit to carry out the practical part of the course and free from medical contraindications that may prevent them from emergency response endurance.
Working at Height Limited is a Quality Assured Training Provider (QATP).
All our trainers have completed the following as standard:
QQI Level 6, Train the Trainer (6N3326 Certificate Award)
QQI Level 5, Safety and Health at Work (5N1794 Certificate Award)
All instructors have been trained and assessed in their subject matter expertise by a third party assessor as part of Working at Height Limited Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Working at Height Group Training Courses
All Working at Height Group training exercises are implemented under a “Knowledge, Skills and Attitude Based Evolution Process” which the delegate experiences as a layering approach.
All training can be conducted in accordance with the following legislation: s;

(EU) Europe – EU Directive 90/269/EEC
(USA) United States of America – OSHA 1910 & 1926
Note:
Students must be medically and physically fit to do doffing and donning of PPE.
All training programmes are structured upon a pass or fail determination criteria and are in accordance with Chemical Response Criteria for accepted practices in safety, health, and environmental training and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
Evaluation
All delegates will be evaluated in accordance with local legislation and guidelines on the main objectives for chemical response procedures.
For working at height, limited practical training exercises are implemented under a “Skills-Based Evolution Process”, which the student experiences as a layering approach, whereby a basic foundation is established, and through reaffirmation and confirmation, additional practical skills are applied to effectively demonstrate and apply through hands-on experiences the complexities of work at height, achieving success through confidence by all who participate.
Reaffirmation through testing is applied with the addition of correction to 100%. This unique philosophy in learning ensures all incorrectly answered test questions are tabled under whole-group discussion to ensure maximum retention and understanding by all students.
